Shortly after midnight on February 27, 2019, rapid gunfire shattered a Gulfport, Mississippi neighborhood. Police who responded to calls at a duplex in the 3000 block of 8th Avenue found 31-year-old Maxwell Phillips dead outside from gunshot wounds and 18-year-old Brooklyn Alsobrooke of Sweeny, Texas dead inside. Investigators described the attack as violent and targeted; a neighbor reported seeing two men dressed in black run from the duplex, but their identities remain unknown.
Phillips was out on bond at the time on a July 2018 human trafficking charge involving a 17-year-old from Sweeny identified as Brooklyn Alsobrooke, and he had a prior human trafficking allegation from 2014 that a grand jury declined to indict. Despite those connections, police said they had no direct evidence tying that case to the killings. No suspects have been publicly named and no arrests reported; the double homicide remains unsolved.
Did anyone in Gulfport at the time see the two men fleeing or have information about who targeted Phillips and Alsobrooke?
