Kendrick Armstrong, 38, of Bruce, Mississippi, was reported missing in February 2019 after family members could not reach him for several hours—behavior they said was highly out of character for the recently celebrated, family-oriented man. A search ended when Armstrong’s body was found in a creek behind a home near Pittsboro alongside the body of 59-year-old Sherri Turner Calderon. Both victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Police investigated the home on County Road 285 where the bodies were located and questioned the homeowners, 28-year-old Christopher Keel and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Trinity Hastings. Both were arrested in connection with the deaths; Keel was charged with capital murder and Hastings was charged as an accessory after the fact to murder. Both were also accused of possessing methamphetamine. No motive had been released at the time of these arrests.
