Rebecca Becky Rosenzweig Ballenger, 70, died at the Woodlands Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Clinton, Mississippi, on December 11, 2018, from a fatal gunshot wound. She had been recovering from a stroke and was living at the facility at the time.
Her husband of more than 40 years, Thomas Ballenger, then 70, told police his wife had been distressed about declining quality of life after the stroke and is reported to have taken her life. Thomas Ballenger was arrested by the Clinton Police Department and charged in connection with her death; the case proceeded through the Hinds County court system and resulted in a guilty plea to manslaughter. In May 2019 a Hinds County judge sentenced him to 20 years, with 12 years suspended, and ordered five years of probation following incarceration.
If anyone knew Rebecca or was familiar with the couple’s situation at the nursing facility, please share information that might shed light on what happened.
