On August 1, 2010, 22-year-old Reginald R. Riley was killed in a drive-by shooting on Chicago’s South Side. The attack occurred around 2:39 a.m. on the 8400 block of South Euclid Avenue in the Avalon Park neighborhood as people were arriving at or leaving a party. Riley had recently graduated from South Shore High School and worked at a rail yard; he was attending the gathering with his friend Michael Chatman, who was also killed in the same attack.
Two other men in their twenties were wounded but survived. Authorities at the time characterized the double homicide as part of a wider pattern of drive-by shootings and ongoing tensions affecting Avalon Park and other South Side neighborhoods in 2010. Investigators asked anyone with information to come forward, but community fear of reprisals hampered many such inquiries.
If anyone knew Reginald, Michael, or was at that party and has information, please share what you remember.
