On October 21, 2017, in the early morning hours shortly after 3:00 a.m., 20-year-old Montez Ammus was found unresponsive on Plum Street in Grenada, Mississippi, after gunfire. Officers from the Grenada Police Department discovered Ammus lying near a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds; the Grenada County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators canvassed the neighborhood and interviewed potential witnesses as they worked to reconstruct the events that led to the shooting.
Ammus was survived by his mother Lakelia Ammus, brother Marquez, and sisters Tekiya and Shamiya. A funeral service was held at Emmanuel Church of God in Christ with arrangements handled by a local funeral home. Local reporting indicated an arrest was made by October 25, 2017, though immediate public details about the suspect and any court proceedings were limited. If anyone on Plum Street that night saw or heard anything that could help clarify what happened, please share what is known.
