On September 1, 2017, 61-year-old Billy Ray Johnson was shot during a violent incident in Kosciusko, Mississippi, and later pronounced dead by the Attala County coroner. A 47-year-old woman was also shot multiple times in the same attack and taken to a nearby hospital.

Kosciusko Police investigators identified two suspects and on September 6 arrested 51-year-old Albert Mallet and 26-year-old Eris Moore, both from West, Mississippi. Mallet was booked on charges including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm; Moore was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. The investigation was reported to be continuing. Did anyone in Kosciusko or the West area have information about Johnson or the events of that day?
