Johnny Wayne James, 41, was shot and killed in early June 2017 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. On the morning of June 3, a 911 call reported a man had either jumped or been pushed from a moving vehicle on Highland Avenue in Stonewall; that witness then told police James had been shot. According to the witness account, James was in a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder with the witness and a third person, Joshua Allen Miller, who allegedly fired a shot from the backseat without provocation.
A short time later a second call led officers to County Road 350, where James’s body was found face down and later pronounced dead of a gunshot wound. Authorities launched a manhunt for Miller, who was considered armed and dangerous; the Pathfinder was later found abandoned in a wooded area off Interstate 59. Miller was captured about 48 hours after the shooting at a Ramada Inn in Laurel and transferred to the Clarke County Detention Facility to face a capital murder charge.
Does anyone have information about James’s movements in Stonewall on June 3, 2017, or about the vehicle that was found off I-59?
