On a Tuesday night in October 2016, 16-year-old Laurel High School student Tamerick Drummond was shot multiple times at the intersection of South 19th Avenue and Lincoln Street in Laurel, Mississippi. He was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center and died of his wounds; the next day would have been his 17th birthday.
Tamerick was on the honor roll and remembered by his father, Maurice Pruitt, as always smiling, well liked, and passionate about fashion. He had played wide receiver for the high school football team. After the killing, family members, Laurel police officers, and counselors went to the school to support grieving students.
The investigation led to the arrest of 18-year-old Mekel Crumbly; bond was set at $250,000. No motive was immediately released, though Tamerick’s father said the two young men had a conflict and that he held no animosity toward the alleged shooter or his family.
If anyone knew Tamerick or has information about that night, please share what you know.
