On August 14, 2016, 26-year-old Black male Marques Kendall Lee was shot and killed while seated in his vehicle outside the Flowing Fountain nightclub on Nelson Street in Greenville, Mississippi. The shooter fired into Lee’s parked car and was wearing a covering over his face, according to accounts of the scene. Witnesses who saw the confrontation and the fleeing gunman provided statements that investigators used as leads.
Investigators from the Greenville Police Department and Washington County authorities focused on tying those eyewitness accounts to a single suspect, Bryan Brown. In January 2019 Brown, then 32, pleaded guilty to his role in the shooting and received a 20-year prison sentence for manslaughter, a resolution prosecutors said reflected investigative work and witness cooperation. The sentence addresses who was responsible for Lee’s death but cannot undo the loss to his family and community.
If anyone knew Marques Kendall Lee or has information about the night on Nelson Street, please share what might help complete the record.
