Malik Brown was 19 when he was shot and killed on Union Street in Greenville, Mississippi, on the evening of July 29, 2016. His death prompted a candlelight vigil where family and friends gathered to mourn and call for an end to gun violence.
The Greenville Police Department investigated the homicide and developed a primary suspect, Jonathan Cooper. Investigators gathered evidence linking Cooper to the shooting; he was later arrested and charged in Malik Brown’s death. Before trial, Cooper pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and the court imposed a lengthy prison sentence.
Does anyone have memories of Malik or information about that night that could add context to the case?
