On the morning of December 31, 2015, 16-year-old Cayle Mitchell Taylor of Franklinton, Louisiana, was fatally shot in the chest during a deer hunting trip in the Delta National Forest near Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He was hunting with his father, Randall Taylor, and authorities described the shooting as accidental. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks investigated and the Issaquena County coroner indicated the death would be ruled an accident. No arrests were made.
Cayle was a freshman at Franklinton High School and played for the Demon Baseball Team. School staff and his coach remembered him as well-liked, hardworking, and out of trouble. He had recently professed his faith at Pine First Baptist Church. His funeral took place the following week with teammates and coaches serving as pallbearers.
If anyone was in the Delta National Forest area that morning or has information about the incident, please share what you know.
