On the evening of August 23, 2015, 25-year-old Christopher Hailes was shot at a Mini-Mart on Chantilly Street in Laurel, Mississippi. He was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Forrest General Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Laurel Police identified two suspects from nearby Heidelberg: 22-year-old Michael Williams and 23-year-old Curtis Williams. Both men were taken into custody and were expected to face murder charges in connection with Hailes’s death. The investigation remained active and details about motive or the outcome of any prosecution were not available.
