A prolonged standoff in Meridian, Mississippi, on April 25, 2014, ended with the death of 20-year-old Emmanuel Wooten. Deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office spent hours outside a residence at 8th Avenue and 19th Street before deploying tear gas into the house.
After the gas was used, Wooten came out the front door and fired a handgun at officers. Multiple officers returned gunfire and Wooten was fatally wounded; his cause of death was ruled to be police gunfire.
Does anyone have additional firsthand details about the standoff or Wooten’s life that could clarify what led up to that night?
