On a cold Friday night in early January 2014, 19-year-old Justin Curry of Laurel, Mississippi, was shot as he left a house on Woodlawn Drive. He and 31-year-old Bennie Owens were guests at the home; as both men walked toward the front door just after 11 p.m., someone outside opened fire. Justin was mortally wounded at the entrance and pronounced dead at the scene; Bennie was taken to a hospital and died during surgery. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire on the quiet street.
