On the evening of September 17, 2012, 21-year-old Randarious Smith was shot at the intersection of 19th Street and 25th Avenue in Meridian, Mississippi. Officers found him in the street about 5:55 p.m.; he was taken to Anderson’s Regional Medical Center in serious condition and later died. An autopsy determined Smith had been shot twice with a medium-caliber handgun.
Meridian Police identified a suspect in the days after the shooting as Rondarius Phillips, described in reports as Smith’s cousin. Phillips turned himself in and was charged with manslaughter and with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bond was set at $250,000 on the manslaughter count and $25,000 on the weapons charge; authorities said they did not anticipate further arrests and planned to present the case to a grand jury.
If anyone knew Randarious, his movements that evening, or has information about the shooting, please share what is known.
