On the evening of November 27, 2005, 23-year-old Brandon Douglas Breland, a narcotics investigator for the Wiggins Police Department, was killed while responding to a reported domestic disturbance at a mobile home on South First Street in Wiggins, Mississippi. Known as Teddy to friends and family, Breland had served five years with the department. He and fellow officer Odell Fite were dispatched around 8:00 p.m.; during the intervention a male subject overpowered the officers, obtained one of their .40 caliber service weapons, and shot both officers. Neither man was wearing a bullet-resistant vest.

Responding units from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Highway Patrol found Breland and Fite dead outside the mobile home after dispatch lost radio contact. Authorities identified the shooter as Ronald Husband, who fled but was captured shortly afterward at his residence in Maxie, Mississippi. Husband was charged with two counts of capital murder, and the case was moved to Lauderdale County because of extensive local pretrial publicity. A jury convicted Husband on both counts and he received life terms without parole; that conviction was upheld on appeal in 2009.

If anyone knew Investigator Breland or was in the Wiggins area that night, does any detail about the call or the scene stand out that hasn’t been publicly discussed?
