On the morning of Monday, November 27, 2000, 47-year-old Calvin Lee Woods was shot to death at his workplace, Heatcraft, Inc., in Grenada, Mississippi. Woods, a production supervisor, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his head; his death was ruled a homicide. The incident occurred during a broader episode of workplace violence that claimed more than one life at the plant.
Investigators identified 57-year-old Doug Mills as the man who entered the factory that morning, shot Woods, then went to a factory washroom and confronted his wife, Lynn Mills, who also worked at the facility. Doug Mills was taken into custody and charged with Calvin Woods’s murder.
Woods was a dedicated employee and active member of Unity Baptist Church near Duck Hill. He was survived by his wife, Patricia Cooper Woods, and two sons, Rusty and Tracy Woods; funeral services were held at North Winona Baptist Church and he was buried in Scotland Cemetery in Winona. Does anyone have information about Calvin’s time at Heatcraft or memories of him to share?
