In the early hours of April 24, 1996, 42-year-old Glenda Tornes was found dead in her Jackson, Mississippi, home with a fatal gunshot wound to the forehead after neighbors reported hearing gunfire. Her estranged husband, Kenneth Tornes, was seen outside the residence washing blood from himself in the carport before police arrived.
Kenneth then went to the city’s central fire station and opened fire with a rifle, killing four supervisors — Captain Merideth Moree, District Chief Dwight Craft, Captain Stan Adams, and District Chief Rick Robbins — and wounding two others. He fled, led police on a high-speed chase, and was wounded in a shootout at a Ridgeland shopping center parking lot before being arrested.
Kenneth was charged with the murders and later convicted of capital murder. He was sentenced to death and died on death row in 2000 from a blood clot. If anyone knew Glenda, her routines, or the household situation in Jackson in 1996, please share what you remember.
