On March 17, 1991, 33-year-old Eric King Wilson, a Black / African American officer with the Aberdeen Police Department and a U.S. Air Force veteran, was found shot to death inside his unmarked police car in Aberdeen, Mississippi. The vehicle was parked in front of his aunt’s house and near the Chief of Police’s residence. His service weapon was holstered and his hands were resting peacefully, a detail that led investigators to conclude he likely did not perceive a threat and may have known his killer. Wilson was engaged to be married and had returned to Monroe County because it felt like home to him.
Decades later the case remains unsolved: no arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified. The community and fellow officers periodically commemorate his life at his grave. Does anyone have information about Eric King Wilson or recall details from Aberdeen in March 1991 that could help this investigation?
