A domestic disturbance call in summer 2022 brought Burton police to a unit at the Kings Lane Apartments, where officers found 62-year-old Ware Lee Lane Jr. with a single gunshot wound to his chest. He died of that injury on June 2, 2022.

Authorities arrested the victim’s nephew, Dennis Lee Ware Jr., and the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office charged him with the murder of Ware Lee Lane Jr., along with additional charges arising from the incident. At the time of the shooting, Dennis Lee Ware Jr. was on parole for a prior assault with intent to commit murder conviction.
