A violent encounter on a rural property in Lodi Township, southwest of Ann Arbor, ended in the death of 27-year-old Kyle Christopher Luark of Redford. On February 26, 2020, deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office found Luark’s body on land owned by medical marijuana grower Kent Hyne after Luark’s mother, unable to reach him, went to the property and was met with gunfire. Investigators determined Luark had been shot multiple times earlier that day and that his body had been partially burned.

Kent Charles Hyne, 57, was arrested at the scene. He told police he shot Luark in self-defense, claiming Luark was trespassing, but prosecutors pointed to efforts to conceal the remains and charged Hyne with manslaughter, felony firearms, concealing the death of an individual, and disinterment and mutilation of a dead body. A jury found Hyne guilty and he received a prison sentence of seven to fifteen years. If anyone knew Kyle, saw him in Lodi Township on February 26, 2020, or has information about what happened on the Waters Road property, please come forward.
