Loren Harrington was 31 when he was shot multiple times and killed on December 7, 2019, at a residence on Beechwood Street in River Rouge, Michigan. A Black man from River Rouge, his death was the first in what investigators later connected to a series of violent killings across Wayne County.

The investigation identified Kenyel Brown, a man with a lengthy criminal history who had been working as a federal informant, as the suspect in Harrington’s murder and several subsequent homicides. Brown’s release from federal custody and role as an informant became a focal point for the victims’ families, including Loren’s mother, Tracye Harrington, who publicly demanded answers about how Brown remained free.

In February 2020, law enforcement located Brown in Oak Park; as officers moved to arrest him he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Many questions about how this crime spree unfolded and the informant relationship remain open.
