Richard A. McKenzie Sr., 75, was shot and killed at his home on Mackinac Trail in the Carp River area of St. Ignace Township on Friday, October 24, 2014. A Navy veteran and longtime local, he and his wife MaryAnn ran River Bend Resort until 2005; he cared for her until her death in December 2013 and was known for his love of the outdoors, gun collecting and NASCAR memorabilia.

Law enforcement took his son, Richard Allan McKenzie Jr., into custody at the scene. Later court proceedings show the younger McKenzie pled guilty to his father’s murder on September 22, 2016.
