Catherine Solinski-Blain, 21, was shot and killed after closing her shift as manager at the Rib Rack in Lathrup Village, Michigan, in October 2008. Investigators found her in her car in the restaurant parking lot; prosecutors say she was the victim of a robbery attempt that escalated when she tried to flee.

Prosecutors identified three young men in the case: Jerome Hamilton, then 16, Brandon Davis, and Deandre Sturges. Deandre Sturges was convicted of first-degree felony murder and sentenced to life without parole. Brandon Davis took a plea to conspiracy to commit armed robbery and accessory and testified for the prosecution, saying the trio tried to rob the night manager and that he heard Hamilton shout, I shot her, as he reentered the car. Cell phone records were introduced that placed all three near the restaurant around the time of the shooting.

Jerome Hamilton’s trials ended without a verdict twice; juries hung in both proceedings. The defense stressed Davis’s inconsistent statements and criminal history and pointed to a lack of physical evidence tying Hamilton to the weapon or scene. Text messages allegedly sent by Hamilton after the murder were also presented by prosecutors.

Does anyone have additional details about the investigation or witnesses who might clarify what happened that night?
