David Wigglesworth, 57, was shot and killed in his Mays Landing home on December 25, 2022. Township of Hamilton Police responded about 10:19 p.m. to a report of an injured male at the Wigglesworth residence on Mays Landing Somers Point Road; David was found with a single gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a single gunshot and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation led to the arrest of his wife, Marylue Wigglesworth, then 51, who was charged with murder. Her attorneys later said she had been physically abused and acted in self-defense; investigators documented significant bruising on her body consistent with assault. In June 2024 Marylue Wigglesworth, then 53, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and in August 2024 received a six-year state prison sentence with an 85 percent parole-eligibility requirement.
Those who knew David through local politics remembered his involvement with the Hamilton Township planning board and the Republican party. Did anyone in the area have information about the Wigglesworths’ relationship or what happened that night?
