On the evening of March 1, 2022, gunfire near Grove Street and Prospect Place in North Plainfield, New Jersey, left 26-year-old Steve J. Camino mortally wounded. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at about 9:36 p.m.; officers performed CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived and Camino was transported to a local trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination determined his death to be a homicide.
Investigators from the North Plainfield Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office developed leads that produced arrests later that month and in April. On March 21, 2022, Kenneth Hill, 21, of Plainfield, and Daniel Carrera Cardona, 22, of Piscataway, were arrested on charges including first-degree murder; both were held at the Somerset County Jail. On April 13, 2022, Jose Branch, 23, of Plainfield, was apprehended in Raleigh, North Carolina, and charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit murder; he was extradited back to New Jersey on April 19 and also held pending a detention hearing.
Does anyone have information about Steve Camino, his whereabouts on March 1, 2022, or contacts who might help investigators?
