Nathaniel Edwards Jr., known as BJ, was fatally shot on the morning of January 9, 2022, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The shooting happened about 10:18 a.m. near Remsen Avenue and Seaman Street. Edwards, 23, was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries. He was born August 28, 1998, and grew up in New Brunswick; family and friends remember him as a protector, a good brother, and a loyal friend.
He graduated from New Brunswick High School in 2017 and most recently worked at a Shop-Rite in East Brunswick. His interests included video games, modeling, and spending time at malls and beaches with his brothers. Authorities identified 23-year-old Malik Stringer of North Brunswick as the alleged shooter.
Stringer was arrested by FBI agents in Atlanta on January 24, 2022, and charged with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder, plus second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun; he was awaiting extradition back to New Jersey and detention pending a pre-trial hearing.
