Azeem Seawright, a 40-year-old Black man born September 9, 1981, was shot while walking in New Brunswick in the small hours of November 1, 2021 near Easton Avenue and Condict Street. Witnesses and reports say he had left to get a late-night snack when the shooting occurred; officers found him with a gunshot wound and he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Friends and funeral notices remembered Seawright as a gentle, talented man with many skills — a licensed contractor who loved music and had dreamed of opening a restaurant. The community responded with grief, memorial pages and a fund in his name.
Police investigators identified and arrested a suspect. Authorities charged 20-year-old Justin Landrum, a visitor from Staten Island, with murder and weapons offenses, and said there was no known prior relationship between Seawright and the accused; the confrontation reportedly began as a verbal dispute that escalated to violence. Does anyone in New Brunswick have information that could shed light on what happened that night?
