On August 21, 2021, 14-year-old Jesse Everett was shot in the head at a Phillips 66 station on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Willingboro, New Jersey. Everett was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Honda Civic that had been reported stolen the day before, accompanied by two others who were not injured. A man identified as 22-year-old Tamir Phillips of Bensalem, Pennsylvania approached the stolen vehicle, fired a single shot, and then left the scene in a car driven by his girlfriend, 29-year-old Chelsea Holman of Willingboro.
Everett was taken to Virtua Willingboro Hospital and then airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he was pronounced dead later that afternoon. Investigators concluded the shooting was retaliatory: the Civic belonged to a friend of Phillips and he had been allowed to use it frequently, and the attack was believed to be in response to the car’s theft. Phillips was arrested the Monday after the shooting and charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses. Holman was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice for driving Phillips to and from the scene; she was released after being charged.
Was anyone in the area that afternoon who saw the interaction at the pumps or the vehicle that left with Phillips and Holman?
