In the early morning hours of May 24, 2020, what first looked like a single-car crash in Vineland, New Jersey, became a homicide investigation. Responding officers found 31-year-old Travis Douglas of Randallstown, Maryland, inside a vehicle at Chestnut Avenue and South West Boulevard; he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Investigators determined Douglas was driving on West Chestnut Avenue when another vehicle pulled alongside and multiple rounds were fired into the driver’s side. Two other people were in Douglas’s car: one passenger was struck several times and treated at a hospital before being released, while the third occupant was not injured.
The Vineland Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office identified two suspects, Wayne Broughton, 29, and Sharay Palmer, 23, both of Vineland, who were charged with murder and related offenses. Did anyone in the area see a vehicle pull up alongside on West Chestnut Avenue that night?
