On the evening of May 1, 2020, Nathan Adcock, a 25-year-old father of two from Pleasantville, New Jersey, was fatally shot in the 100 block of North First Street shortly before 6:30 p.m. Pleasantville police found Adcock with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to AtlantiCare Medical Center in Atlantic City where he was pronounced dead. He is remembered as a product of the Pleasantville public school system, an avid reader and a passionate Eagles fan.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Pleasantville Police Department led the investigation, with assistance from Philadelphia Parole and the Philadelphia Police Fugitive Homicide Unit. Detectives identified a suspect and on November 6, 2020, 39-year-old Teddy Smith of Philadelphia was arrested at a parole office there and charged with murder and weapons offenses. An Atlantic County grand jury later returned an indictment in August 2021 on first-degree murder and related weapons counts.
