On December 31, 2019, 19-year-old Samaad Frazier was found inside a vehicle parked behind a residence on Churchill Avenue in Somerset, New Jersey, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders gave life-saving aid and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead; an autopsy later confirmed the death was a homicide.

The shooting occurred amid a string of shots-fired reports in Franklin Township. Police identified a suspect vehicle fleeing the scene; a pursuit ended when that vehicle crashed and five occupants ran. Three suspects were caught at the crash: 18-year-old Gavin M. Owens-Jones, who was armed with a semi-automatic handgun and complied with officers, 19-year-old Jeffrey J. Grant Jr., and a 16-year-old. A fourth 16-year-old was arrested two days later, and 21-year-old Luther Waters III was later located and taken into custody. All five faced charges related to Frazier’s death, including murder and weapons possession; Owens-Jones and Grant faced eluding charges, and one juvenile faced eluding.

Frazier was a 2018 graduate of Franklin High School and a noted basketball player. Does anyone have information about the shooting or the events that led up to that night?
