Hi I’m Dorrien Kent and I am Marcus Duke’s son. I am 20 now.. and I was searching for something about him..I have only ever known what my mom has told me. I don’t know my dads side of the family but I hope to meet them one day. I’ve seen one photo of my dad. A high school photo. I always wonder what my life would’ve been if he was still here. I hope that one day I get the answers that I’m searching for. I hope I get to meet my other family who may not even know I exist. RIP dad, I love you.

Marcus Duke, 20, was fatally shot on December 9, 2008, in a neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. He died shortly after the attack from multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred at night.

The account places Marcus’s death within a year when Chicago recorded over 500 homicides, and notes that violence was concentrated in parts of the city including the South Side, where gang conflicts, limited economic opportunity, and lack of social support are described as contributing factors.

Marcus’s death is one of many from that period that highlight the human cost of ongoing violence in vulnerable neighborhoods.
