Jaquan Heyward, 32, was shot to death in the courtyard of the Liberty Village housing complex on Liberty Street in Plainfield, New Jersey, on Sunday, May 26, 2019. Officers arrived about 8:20 p.m. and found Heyward with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and pronounced dead less than an hour later.
A multi-agency investigation identified 26-year-old Djuan Gamble of Plainfield as the primary suspect. On June 12, 2019, Gamble was charged with first-degree murder and two second-degree weapons offenses. A multi-agency manhunt ended when U.S. Marshals arrested Gamble at a relative’s home in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 3, 2019; he was taken into custody and held pending extradition to New Jersey. Authorities offered a reward of up to $10,000 through Union County Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
Does anyone have information about what happened that night or about Jaquan’s activities at Liberty Village leading up to May 26, 2019?
