Morad Awad, 24, was found dead in his Nissan Maxima at a BP station on Route 3 in Clifton, New Jersey, on the morning of Saturday, December 29, 2018. He had been using the car for shelter after recently becoming homeless. Authorities were called about an unresponsive person around 11 a.m., and medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene after he was discovered with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office initially described the wound as appearing self-inflicted and treated the case as an active criminal investigation pending autopsy results. Investigators said they were not seeking any suspects and that there was no ongoing danger connected to the incident. It is not known conclusively whether the death was self-inflicted or the result of homicide.
