Darren Fordham Jr., a 26-year-old Black man from Somerset, New Jersey, was found dead in a wooded area off Phillips Road in Franklin Township on the evening of July 1, 2018 after a 911 call. Investigators determined he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide.

Detectives traced the timeline to the late hours of June 30 and the early morning of July 1, and believe the shooting occurred at the Hamilton Garden Apartments in New Brunswick. Fordham’s body was then moved to the secluded location in Franklin Township where it was discovered.

Within a week investigators arrested 26-year-old Abubakaar Diddy King of Franklin Township; on July 6, 2018 he was charged with first-degree murder, desecrating human remains, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and tampering with evidence, and was held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center.
