On the evening of Saturday, February 3, 2018, gunfire rang out on Ampere Parkway in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Police responding to reports of shots just before 7 p.m. found a man unresponsive inside a parked vehicle in the 200 block. He was identified as 55-year-old Juan P. Santos-Martinez of nearby East Orange and had sustained apparent gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and the Bloomfield Police Department took over the investigation. Authorities indicated the shooting did not appear to be random and said it was believed both Santos-Martinez and the person or persons responsible were from East Orange and were traveling through Bloomfield when the encounter occurred. Witnesses reported hearing about five or six gunshots.
Public information about arrests or suspect identifications has not been released, and the case remains unresolved. If anyone has information about Juan Santos-Martinez or the events on Ampere Parkway that night, please come forward.
