On the evening of December 29, 2016, Shamar Coleman, 32, was fatally shot inside his own restaurant, Seafood Rama, on East Second Street in Plainfield, New Jersey. The attack occurred at about 5:45 p.m. When officers arrived Coleman was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been inside the restaurant speaking with a friend and the friend’s 5-year-old daughter; neither was physically harmed.
Investigators from the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Department circulated surveillance footage showing a person of interest near the restaurant around the time of the shooting. The individual was seen exiting and entering the passenger side of a small Volkswagen sedan reported stolen from Newark shortly before the homicide and was wearing bright blue pants, white sneakers, a dark facial covering and a two-toned hooded sweatshirt that appeared light gray on top and black on the bottom. A reward of up to $10,000 from Union County Crime Stoppers has been offered for information leading to an arrest, but no arrests have been announced.
Coleman’s family remembers him as kind and generous, frequently providing food to people in the community regardless of their ability to pay. Does anyone have information about that Volkswagen or the person seen on the surveillance footage?
