On the morning of June 10, 2016, Pradipkum Shah, a 53-year-old man of Indian descent, was shot inside his home on Lakeview Drive in the Parlin section of Sayreville, New Jersey. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and died of his injuries the following day.
Investigators quickly focused on a close family member. Two days after the shooting, 20-year-old Vishal Shah was arrested and charged with murder; authorities said he shot his father once with a .25-caliber handgun and then hid the weapon. Vishal was held on $1 million bail at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center. In March 2018 he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in a New Jersey state prison under the No Early Release Act, which requires serving 85 percent of the term before parole eligibility.
What details about the family dynamic or events before June 10 might help explain what happened that morning?
