Leandro Mendoza, 21, was shot and killed during an armed robbery at the Lexington Liquor store on Lexington Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey, on October 16, 2015. He and a co-worker were closing the store when a group approached; at least one person opened fire. Mendoza was struck and died of his injuries; the other employee suffered minor wounds. Family and friends said Mendoza was a hardworking, always smiling aspiring rapper who was not involved in trouble.

The Clifton Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office arrested four suspects days after the shooting: 18-year-old Owen Soltis of Clifton and three 17-year-old males whose names were not released. Investigators concluded the group had planned to rob the liquor store. One juvenile, Darial Pena, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, admitted his hand was on the trigger when the gun discharged, and received a 16-year state prison sentence as part of a plea agreement to testify. Owen Soltis pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter as the identified lookout and was sentenced to 10 years, with parole eligibility after serving eight and a half years. The outcomes for the other two suspects were not detailed.

Did anyone who knew Leandro or worked near Lexington Avenue see anything that night or have information about the robbery plan?
