Keon Butler, 28, of Bridgeton, New Jersey, was shot and killed on the morning of August 11, 2015. Butler was driving a minivan near North Laurel and Myrtle streets when a vehicle that had been pursuing him pulled alongside; a single gunshot to the head proved fatal.

Authorities arrested Raheem Jacobs of Bridgeton in October 2015 and later indicted him for Butler’s killing. Jacobs was also indicted in connection with the September 2015 murder of Jeron King, an attack prosecutors alleged was linked to information King had about Butler’s death. After a two-and-a-half-week trial, a Cumberland County jury in May 2022 found Jacobs guilty of reckless manslaughter in Butler’s death; he was sentenced to a term that could extend to 20 years, with 17 years required before parole eligibility.
