Nigel Morton was 21 when he was shot dead after answering a knock at his front door at his Westfield Avenue home in Rahway, New Jersey. The shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on June 8, 2015; he was wounded by a single chest shot, taken to University Hospital in Newark, and pronounced dead the following morning.
A joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, the Rahway Police Department, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office Identification Unit identified three men as suspects: 22-year-old Quincy Oliver of Rahway, 22-year-old Tyrell Dekle of Woodbridge, and 23-year-old James C. Sears of East Orange. Authorities said Sears was a member of the Piru set of the Bloods street gang. Arrests followed over several months, with Oliver charged in July 2015 and Dekle and Sears charged in October 2015; a Union County grand jury returned indictments in February 2016 charging all three with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and two second-degree weapons offenses.
Does anyone have information about Mortons life in Rahway or the events of that night that could help clarify what led to the shooting?
