Bilal Salaam was 21 and from Galloway Township when he was killed by gunfire in Pleasantville, New Jersey, on the evening of Thursday, December 11, 2014. Shots were reported at about 8:29 PM near Seagrass Cove and Ridgewood Avenue; police found Salaam with gunshot wounds and his injuries proved fatal. The Pleasantville Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit opened an investigation.

That same night, a separate volley of gunfire struck two homes on the 400 block of Alder Avenue; no one inside those residences was injured. An autopsy was scheduled to establish the exact cause and manner of Salaam’s death. As of the immediate aftermath, no suspects had been publicly identified and no arrests announced.
