Abenego Wesseh, 21, was fatally shot in the head in a wooded section of Fairmount Park in Willingboro, New Jersey. He was lured to the park by someone he considered a friend; his body was found along a paved path the afternoon of March 26, 2014. An autopsy confirmed a gunshot wound and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Suspicion quickly focused on 19-year-old Abdullah H. Sheriff, a Willingboro High School senior. Sheriff was arrested at the school two days after Wesseh’s body was discovered and the firearm believed to have been used was recovered. The two men, both from families originating in Liberia, had once been close friends; reported motive was that Sheriff felt teased and disrespected by Wesseh.

Initially charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, Sheriff later pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and received a 21-year state prison sentence with 85 percent of the term to be served before parole eligibility. Did anyone who knew Abenego or who was in Fairmount Park that week see or hear anything that could help fill in details of what happened?
