Jermarl A. Dawkins was 34 when he was shot multiple times at the Burlington Manor Apartments in Bridgeton, New Jersey, on the evening of Thursday, January 16, 2014. He died that day from his injuries. Authorities said the shooting was not random and quickly identified a suspect.
Police named 20-year-old Paul Willoughby of Fairfield Township as the person sought in the fatal shooting. A multi-agency investigation by the New Jersey State Police, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bridgeton City Police Department tracked Willoughby as he evaded capture for about six weeks. Detectives conducting surveillance in early March observed him leaving his home; he tried to discard a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun over a fence and fled briefly before being arrested.
Willoughby was charged with murder in connection with Dawkins’s death and with unlawful possession of a weapon and related offenses, and was lodged in the Cumberland County Jail. Does anyone have information about Dawkins, his time at Burlington Manor Apartments, or the events that night?
