Barry Lee Bush, a 52-year-old FBI Special Agent, was killed in Readington Township, New Jersey during an attempted arrest of suspects tied to a string of armed robberies. The operation took place on April 5, 2007, when agents moved in on three men believed to be preparing another robbery at a PNC Bank. The suspects reportedly possessed two assault rifles and a handgun but did not fire during the confrontation.
According to accounts of the incident, Bush was mortally wounded by an accidental discharge from another agent’s weapon amid the chaotic arrest. Two suspects, Wilfredo Berrios, 28, and Michael Cruz, 21, both of New Brunswick, were taken into custody at the scene. A third suspect, 22-year-old Francisco Herrera-Genao, also of New Brunswick, fled but was captured the following day; all three were charged in connection with the attempted armed robbery.
Did anyone in the area witness the arrest or the moments leading up to it who can add details about what happened that day?
