On November 16, 2022, 22-year-old Alyssa Trynese Gainey was shot and killed in the basement of a home on Isle Royale Terrace in Dumfries, Virginia. Officers who arrived around 11:15 p.m. found Gainey and her 24-year-old boyfriend, Javon Alberto Williams, both suffering from gunshot wounds; Gainey was pronounced dead at the scene and Williams was later taken to a hospital. A pit bull mix in the home had also been shot and was later euthanized.
Investigators identified 24-year-old Desmond Malcolm Daniel of Woodbridge as a suspect. Reports say Daniel had previously been in a relationship with Gainey and had posted videos on social media earlier that evening showing firearms and making threats. Security footage from the residence reportedly shows a shooter firing through a basement window to gain entry and then shooting both Gainey and Williams multiple times before fleeing.
A manhunt involved multiple agencies and led to an arrest early the next morning at Dulles International Airport, where the suspect was found in a short-term parking lot; he had purchased a one-way ticket to Panama. Charging decisions were announced by prosecutors. If anyone knew Alyssa, her relationship with the suspect, or saw suspicious activity near Isle Royale Terrace that night, please share what was seen with investigators.
