Cion Jere` Carroll was 17 when he disappeared from Kenbridge, Lunenburg County, Virginia, the night of November 2, 2022, after a minor argument with his grandmother. He had recently moved from Henrico County to live with his grandmother. Family reported him missing the following day when he failed to return and did not answer calls.

A cell phone ping placed Cion at or near the residence of a registered sex offender in Kenbridge, but authorities reportedly did not search that home, citing lack of probable cause. On November 11, 2022 human remains were found in a shallow grave just outside Kenbridge and later positively identified as Cion. The medical examiner determined he had been shot twice — once in the head and once in the spine — then dismembered; lye and cement were poured over the remains before burial. The Virginia State Police took over the homicide investigation, have asked the public for help, and no arrests or publicly named suspects have been reported as of the posting date.
