On the evening of September 7, 2022, a gunshot was reported at an apartment complex on Declaration Drive in Stafford, Virginia. Deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 10:36 p.m. and found 45-year-old Anthony Jermaine Johnson in front of one of the buildings with a gunshot wound. Bystanders and deputies administered first aid; medics transported Johnson to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injury.

The death was investigated as a homicide. Investigators identified a suspect quickly, and on September 8, 2022 authorities arrested 24-year-old William McQueen of Stafford. He was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail as the investigation continued.
