Aliyah Henderson was 19 when she was shot dead at a Stafford residence on Crescent Valley Drive on the afternoon of August 23, 2022. Deputies found her inside the home with a gunshot wound; medics could not save her. The couple’s one-year-old child and another family member were in the house but were not physically harmed. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Investigators focused on 21-year-old Trevon Vanzant of Chesterfield, identified as the father of Henderson’s child. Authorities say Vanzant shot Henderson during a dispute; he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and held without bond. Henderson’s family described her as a bright, creative young mother who wanted to study hair and makeup; her parents are caring for her son.
